ETP4HPC members vote to join the new EuroHPC Joint Undertaking

ETP4HPC organised on 26-27 July a vote among our full members to formally decide whether to join the new EuroHPC JU as a private member. The result of the vote was overwhelmingly in favour of joining the EuroHPC JU. This renewed partnership with the EuroHPC JU “2.0” is expected to strengthen the position of our association in the European HPC landscape, in particular through our advisory role.

The context

On 13 July, the Economic and Financial Affairs Council adopted the Council Regulation on establishing the new European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU). This marks the start of the EU and EuroHPC JU’s ability to draw funds from the Horizon Europe, Digital Europe and the Connecting Europe Facility programmes that will, together with the investment of the participating states and the EuroHPC Private Members, be worth around €7 billion.

The first European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) was created in 2018 as a legal and funding entity, located in Luxembourg. The EuroHPC JU achieved autonomy in September 2020.

The EuroHPC JU is made up of the following members: the European Union, represented by the Commission, Member States, countries associated to Horizon Europe, the Digital Europe Programme or the Connecting Europe Facility, associations representing their constituent entities, and other organisations with an explicit and active engagement to produce research and innovation results in the area of high-performance computing or quantum computing.
